Its been a while since I have posted anything on this blog. I ran in 2011 and then I had to stop because I hurt my ITBs at the Bartlett Park Ultra 50k in Sept. So I have been on the road to recovery but I am having some trouble with my gluts since they are really tight but the ITB is much better now.
I have been hiking a lot since it doesn't hurt as bad as when I am running or walking fast. I have done a few hikes down in Mississippi and Alabama. I never knew that there was that kind of elevation there. Come to find out that is the tail end of the Appalachian Mountains.
I joined a friend of mine at her place in Iuka, MS and we headed down to Tishomingo State Park and later to Cane Creek Nature Preserve. We had a great time and saw some beautiful scenery. It was the first time to hike at each location and have been back again to Cane Creek to explore a different part of the Preserve. There are lots of waterfalls and beautiful rock formations. Right now the spring flowers are starting to bloom.
I enjoyed Tishomingo State Park and there are more places for me to check out and will probably go back again. Lots of rocks and underground springs and Bear Creek River to walk along. There is a $3 (car) cost to get in but the park seems to be in great shape and bridges look like they are kept up well. We actually went the opposite direction of the map so the hardest, most elevated climb was at the beginning and the easier flatter at the end for any of the new hikers. Lots of rocks and leaves covered the trail. The trees were marked with red flagging tape. We did three different trails starting on the Bear Creek Trail and then over to the CCC Camp trail and after we finished hiking with a group. My friend and I went to the Outcropping Trail which is on the other side of the Swinging Bridge. I think this was my favorite part of the park.
Here are some pictures I took at Tishomingo State Park.

I think the Outcropping trail had some of the prettiest views. Lots of climbs, underwater springs and beautiful color rock formations.
